Reducing production costs of microbial biological crop protection
Producing cost-competitive biological crop protection tools at scale is a critical step towards providing farmers with an economically productive toolbox of solutions for sustainable crop management. At Zymofix, we have developed a proprietary technology to address this critical challenge.
Our solid-state fermentation technology uses agricultural waste streams as a feedstock to manufacture microbial strains for crop protection. We see strong potential for both cost and sustainability advantages compared with conventional biological manufacturing processes.
🧬 In collaboration with Bayer’s biologics team, we recently completed a successful feasibility study demonstrating that our solid-state fermentation technology can produce commercial strains that meet the quality benchmarks of established liquid fermentation processes.
🌽 This circular approach to strain production offers a pathway to a scalable, lower-cost manufacturing process for biological crop protection tools, with the potential to make a real difference in the field.
🤝 As we continue to advance the technology, our partnership is now supporting an in-depth assessment of cost of goods and scalability.
